Taustaa jyotish-kartan tulkinnalle:

In India if you were asked, “What is your sign?” they would be referring the nakshatra placement of your natal moon. Actually, they would ask, “What is your star?” Here the chart calculator gives you your nakshatra in which your moon was at birth. You may refer to the pages on the 27 nakshatras to read more detail about your personal nakshatra. They are more in depth than the signs, with rich detail concerning your nature.

The predictive tool used in Vedic astrology called the planetary cycles or the dashas are based on the nakshatra your natal moon is placed at the time of birth. This determines the timing of your life experiences throughout your lifetime. This should reveal just how important your moon is in the Vedic chart.

Vedic astrology is a lunar based system. Interestingly the calendar in India is based on the nakshatras. Each month is named after the nakshatra the full moon occurs in for that month. There are references to the nakshatras in the Rig Veda, one of the oldest Indian scriptures dating approximately 1,500-2,000 BCE.

There are 27 nakshatras divided into 13 degrees 20 minute portions of the zodiac. Remember the signs are composed of 30 degrees divisions of the zodiac therefore the 12 signs at 30 degrees each equate to the 360 band of the zodiac. The nakshatras are 13 degrees 20 minutes therefore, there are 27 within the 360 degree zodiac.

The place in the sky where your nakshatra falls will give rich meaning depending of the meanings of the groupings of fixed stars falling in this portion of the zodiac. Read your star and contemplate its significance in your life. Actually all the planets in your chart fall in a portion of the sky that is in a nakshatra, and has specific meaning in your life, but the moon’s nakshatra is the most important.

Jos oikein tulkitsin, itselläni Kuun nakSatra* on jyestha** (dsjeestha), Vanhin:

There is a sense of betrayal and abandonment indicated by the myth. They have a sense of seniority and superiority due to age and experience. They are very protective of themselves and loved ones. They possess hidden occult powers. They are the wise ones who have the wisdom that only age and experience can give. As the patriarch or matriarch of the family they are the ones who will run the show. They know how to deal with wealth and power. Their lives are not easy and some may experience hardship and poverty. They are reclusive, secretive with few friends. Their inventive profound minds provoke them to seek the deeper meaning on life. At times they can be arrogant and hypocritical, because of their low self-esteem.

Significance of Moon
The divisional longitude of each of the 27 nakshatras beginning with Ashwini and ending with Revati is 13 degrees and 20 minutes further divided into four quarters or padas. Each of the nine planets presides over a set of three nakshatras situated on the zodiac at a trine from each other. The commencing dasha or mahadasha at the time of birth will be that of the lord of the nakshatra in which the Moon is placed, which particular nakshatra is known as the "Janma nakshatra". If the Moon is in Taurus in Mrigsira the first dasha will be of Mars, the second will be that of Rahu and so on. The distance already covered by the Moon in Mrigsira will be the portion of the dasha of Mars that has elapsed; the distance yet to be covered will represent the portion of the dasha of Mars that is yet to be experienced. The balance is calculated on the basis of the rule of three only in the case of the first mahadasha; the subsequent mahadashas will have their full quota. The balance mahadasha at birth on the basis of the exact longitude of the Moon can be ascertained by using the ready reckoner provided in all Panchangas. The Antra-dashas or the sub-periods and the Prayantra-dashas of each planet is calculated on pro-rata basis in proportion of the years allotted to them in the 120 years cycle of Vimshottari dasha system.[5]:253 Saravali insists that the sign occupied by the Moon and the influences exercised on it by other planets through aspects etc.; at the time of the commencement of its mahadasa should be noted and examined, the same principle should also be applied to other mahadasa lords. If at the time of the commencement of the mahadasa its lord is in the lagna or in benefic or friendly vargas or in an upachyasthana from the Birth ascendant or if the Moon occupies the friendly sign or exaltation sign of the lord of the mahadasa or is in an upachyasthana from the mahadasa lord and the mahadasa lord is in a trine from the Moon then
